The First Five Days in the Humanities

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Alan November's ideas about the first five days of school provide the perfect jumping-off point for a transformative interdisciplinary experience. Eighth graders learned to target their searches, evaluate their sources, publish their findings and defend their conclusions. They then took those skills out for a spin, accessing the world's leading authorities on the Mexican-American War, mashing up websites to summarize what they learned, then writing newspaper stories in Spanish and in English about events that took place during the war. During the session, participants will start with the goals for the project, brainstorm ideas about how to approach them from a first-five-days perspective, then see what the students did and what their outcomes were.
