Building Learning Communities

Students come to school to learn how to read, write and do arithmetic. But the one skill they come in with, listening, loses importance over time as they build on their reading and writing skills. Listening as a skill is almost entirely absent from the K12 curriculum. But you can infuse listening skills across your curriculum. In this workshop we will give teachers an understanding of the neuroscience behind auditory learning. Participants will also learn about tools they can use to help students build critical listening skills. They will learn how to use their smart phones and computers to record sound in the classroom.
